Summertime Prep
The 2020/2021 academic season will come to a close on June 11th, when GCSD celebrates graduation at the high school. School-based mentoring will wrap up one week prior, on June 4th. This doesn’t mean that mentoring has to stop! Stay open to the possibility of supporting your mentee in the summer of 2021.
Many consider summer a time of rejuvenation, but it can also be a difficult couple months for at-risk youth. Meals and a safe space might not be readily available. Therefore, even if you scale back your mentoring activities, keep in touch with your mentee. Maintain a connection by sending mail, calling, texting, and planning meetups. Talk with your mentee now and make a plan before summer arrives.
School-based mentors and mentees are invited to meet at HMK summer lunches, outside at the picnic tables. Dates and times will be announced in the summer newsletter. Community-based matches are encouraged to continue through the summer as well, meeting at approved locations and logging their activities using their online form.
